The Swedish Ultima 15 ashtray from the 1960s, designed by Holger Bäckström and Bo Ljungberg for Diverse Ting, is a quintessential example of Scandinavian modernism distilled to its purest form. Crafted from solid aluminum and measuring 15 × 15 cm, this square block demonstrates precise, functional craftsmanship of the era. The silver-toned surface, semi-matte and slightly satin in appearance, carries subtle traces of use—minor scratches and natural patina that do not compromise its integrity. Its most distinctive feature is the top surface: a regular 5 × 5 grid of deep, circular recesses encircled by sharply faceted edges, creating a striking geometric rhythm and reinforcing the piece’s architectural character.
