ABOUT PRODUCTID 24162
The 'Provence' bowl is a 1955 design by Per Lütken for the Danish manufacturer Royal Copenhagen. Crafted from hand-formed glass colored in a cool, saturated blue, it stands out for its substantial, rounded rim and fluid, biomorphic silhouette. The thick glass creates a striking color gradient—from deep, intense blue at the edges and base, to an almost transparent center. Its proportions (31 × 31 × 19 cm) emphasize the sculptural character typical of mid-century Scandinavian modernism, where simplicity, natural forms, and artisan precision took precedence. The surface is glossy and mirror-like, free of additional decoration, and the seamless construction with a lightly indented base is characteristic of hand-blown glass. The bowl is preserved in very good vintage condition, with only minor surface scratches consistent with its age, and no chips, cracks, or repairs. This bowl encapsulates the spirit of the 1950s, when Scandinavian modernism drew inspiration from nature—forms became more fluid, and glass served as a vessel for light and color. The blue evokes the imagery of Nordic skies and tranquil lakes, reflecting its surroundings like a mirror. "I am a form born from the need for harmony," the bowl seems to say, telling a story of craftsmanship, material focus, and the pursuit of beauty in simplicity. The bowl is best displayed on a low console or center table in a living room, where natural or accent lighting can enhance its color and transparency. It can be paired with teak wood furniture, period ceramics, or minimalist textiles—a composition in the mid-century modern spirit that highlights the glass’s refinement. For added contrast, it may be set against pale marble or concrete, left empty,
