This French cabinet photo frame, crafted at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, exemplifies the refined metalwork of the fin de siècle era with strong Art Nouveau influences. Cast from pewter and finished with galvanic copper patination, it features a deep, dark brown tone with subtle golden highlights. The surface is mostly matte, with gentle satin reflections on the raised high-relief elements, emphasizing the three-dimensional, sculptural quality of the composition. The frame is adorned with an elaborate, organic ornamentation of numerous playful cherubs entwined with swirling plant motifs, flowers, and grapevines. The cherubs are depicted in dynamic, anatomically detailed poses, and the whole is crowned by a decorative hanging loop at the top. A beaded inner border surrounds the photo aperture, suitable for a 14 x 10 cm portrait. The overall proportions are gently curved and organic, characteristic of the Art Nouveau style.
