ABOUT PRODUCTID 16712
The 'Optical' Vase, model 914, is an example of 1950s Czechoslovakian utilitarian glass, designed by Rudolf Schrötter for Rosice Glassworks (Sklo Union). The construction features a substantial, slightly tapering cylindrical body set on a square base with rounded edges (7.5 × 7.5 cm). The glass, in a saturated translucent blue, was pressed and molded using an optical lens technique: a pattern of elongated, vertical oval lenses covers the entire surface, sharply defined and highly glossy, amplifying light reflection and visual depth. The texture is flawlessly smooth, the pressed details remain crisp and geometrically precise, and the vase displays an airy transparency despite its robust form. It measures 15.5 cm in height. The condition is very good, with no visible damage, chips, cracks or restoration—an authentic collector's piece. The shape and light play of this vase speak of an era seeking modernity without abandoning artisanal precision. The Czechoslovak 1950s saw an interplay of transparency, optical illusion, and craftsmanship—each lens detail catching shadow and gleam, evoking the atmosphere of mid-century interiors. The vase communicates through geometry and cool blue intensity, channeling the industrial optimism and daily lyricism of postwar modernism. The 'Optical' model pairs best with simple, contemporary furniture or as part of a display with other geometric glass and ceramic objects from the mid-century period. It could be set against light wood or crisp white, allowing light to interact through the lens pattern, or placed as a focal accent on a console or bookshelf. In more classical arrangements, consider grouping it with other pressed glass pieces or understated art prints. The vase is well suited to both mid-century modern living rooms and more eclectic collector spaces.
