This three-tier plant stand or étagère, designed by Emilie Guyot for Thonet in the 1930s, exemplifies early modernist design with pronounced Art Deco and Bauhaus influences. The frame is crafted from bent, chrome-plated steel tubing with a cool, mirror-like sheen, showing natural patina consistent with age. Three highly glossy black glass shelves, secured to the frame with brown leather or faux-leather straps, provide a striking contrast and visual lightness. The structure features a geometric, asymmetrical form – two sweeping semicircular supports and a cantilevered shelf arrangement create a dynamic, elongated silhouette. The proportions are refined, and details such as visible screws demonstrate the precise craftsmanship characteristic of Thonet. The glass is perfectly flat and intact, the chrome remains coherent with only subtle traces of time.
