The Braun AB-40 sl quartz alarm clock, designed by Dietrich Lubs in 1992, exemplifies the minimalist and utilitarian design language characteristic of the early 1990s. Its compact, almost square form presents softly rounded edges, produced from matte white plastic that harmonizes with a white dial featuring crisp black Arabic numerals and precise minute indices. Signature contrasting hands – black for the hour and minute, white with a green tip for the alarm, and a central yellow accent – reflect Braun’s instantly recognizable color coding. Both front and back are signed, while a subtly raised clear plastic cover protects the dial. This model is referenced in design literature as a symbol of German product innovation. The piece is preserved in very good condition, with minimal signs of age visible only upon close inspection of surface details
