ABOUT PRODUCTID 20298
This amphora-shaped vase, designed by Jerzy Słuczan-Orkusz in Kraków in 1972, is a striking example of 1970s Polish artistic glass. Crafted from colored glass, it showcases a smooth gradient—from smoky lavender at the rim and base, through a pale blush in the central body, to luminous, light reflections on its semi-translucent, glossy surface. The classical amphora form is reinterpreted through a modernist lens: a wide, flared mouth, rounded shoulders, a slender body tapering downward, a distinct spherical foot, and two symmetrically curved handles with subtle scroll details. The base is broad and stable, with a visible, hand-finished pontil mark. The proportions are harmonious, the line clear and balanced. The glass surface is smooth, with no visible signs of wear, chips, or cracks—this vase is in very good condition, with no signs of restoration and all elements original. The piece speaks in the voice of its era: its form echoes neoclassical motifs, yet it carries the unmistakable spirit of the 1970s, when Polish studio glass was seeking new means of expression. Słuczan-Orkusz’s amphora balances the elegance of antiquity with the freshness of modernist interpretation—gentle curves evoke tranquility, while the shifting colors suggest a dialogue between light and glass. In daylight, the vase can appear almost ethereal, as if capturing a fleeting moment within its crystalline structure. The vase may be used as a sculptural accent
