ABOUT PRODUCTID 36650
This armchair, designed by Jan Vaněk for Závody Projekt in the 1930s, exemplifies Czechoslovak modernism, where functionality intertwines with understated organic form. The construction is based on honey-toned bentwood, finished in a satin semi-matte that reveals the natural woodgrain. The flowing lines of the armrests and legs form a unified, continuous silhouette with distinctly rounded edges and a cantilevered, sculptural base. The original seat and backrest cushions are thickly upholstered in a woven geometric striped fabric, combining beige, cream, light brown, and muted blue-grey in horizontal bands. The fabric, softly textured and tufted, enhances both comfort and visual rhythm; the seat is supported by characteristic webbing straps. Condition: good, with authentic patina, minor wear to the wood finish, and gentle signs of age on the fabric, without major damage. This chair recalls the spirit of the 1930s—a period when Central European modernism was searching for harmony between innovation and everyday comfort. Its streamlined silhouette tells a story of fascination with new bentwood techniques and a desire for gentle, welcoming ergonomics. The geometric stripes on the upholstery echo the calm, orderly cadence of interiors open to experimentation. Subtle patina on wood and textile not only affirms the chair's authenticity but also introduces a tangible sense of decades past, as if the piece quietly remembers bygone conversations and afternoons spent reading. The Vaněk chair can be paired with a minimalist walnut or marble side table, creating a refined duo in a modernist or eclectic
