ABOUT PRODUCTID 28477
The FD-159 armchair, designed by Ole Wanscher and produced by France & Daverkosen in Denmark during the 1950s, exemplifies Scandinavian Modern design where elegant lines meet functional clarity. The high, gently contoured backrest and seat are upholstered in genuine leather in a cool, deep teal-green, contrasting with the solid teak frame finished in a smooth satin sheen. Button tufting on both the backrest and seat introduces a timeless, classic detail to the modern silhouette. Slender, softly curved armrests flow seamlessly into the frame, while the subtly tapered straight legs highlight the chair’s lightness. Precise joinery and visible wood grain affirm the quality of Danish mid-century craftsmanship. The armchair is preserved in very good condition, having undergone a full restoration with new upholstery. This design carries the voice of 1950s Northern Europe: restraint in ornamentation and the nobility of material create an atmosphere of understated elegance. The teak frame, smooth to the touch, recalls the tradition of Danish workshops where every component had its purpose and meaning. The densely tufted leather seat evokes domestic tranquility and long, unhurried afternoons in which time moves more slowly. The armchair almost whispers a story of seeking harmony between form and comfort—never imposing, always balanced in its proportions. In the living room, the armchair can be paired with a minimalist coffee table in pale wood or metal to accentuate its rhythm of lines. It works well in both Scandinavian and eclectic interiors, especially alongside a floor lamp with soft light or a woolen rug in neutral tones. It is worth combining with natural-toned textiles or ceramic and glass accessories to create a subtle dialogue between modernity and the warmth of traditional materials.
