ABOUT PRODUCTID 28427
The Model 42 cocktail chair is a design by Erik Kirkegaard for the Danish manufacturer Høng Stolefabrik, created in the 1950s. The chair features a solid teak wood frame with a matte finish, revealing the natural grain and a medium-brown tone. Notable characteristics include gently rounded armrests, angled legs, and an open, organic backrest, all lending the piece a sense of lightness and well-balanced proportions. The seat and curved backrest have been newly upholstered in a high-quality, tightly woven textile in a mottled light grey and off-white palette. The upholstery has a matte, soft-to-the-touch surface that enhances the chair’s minimalist aesthetic, while the precise dowel and mortise-and-tenon joinery attest to the high level of Danish craftsmanship. The chair is in very good condition, with fully renewed upholstery and refinished woodwork.
The form of the Model 42 speaks in the language of postwar Denmark—an era that valued understated beauty in everyday objects. Its organic lines and open silhouette seem to invite natural light to interact with the wood’s texture and the softness of the fabric. This is a piece that tells the story of Scandinavian modernism: a focus on comfort without sacrificing refined simplicity, harmony between material and form, as if every detail is an ode to balance and nature. Teak and the grey fabric create a poised duo—calm yet distinctive, ready to accompany daily rituals.
The Model 42 chair can be paired with a low wooden or glass table to highlight its subtle construction. It works well
