The Mushroom armchair, designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort in the 1990s, stands as one of the most iconic examples of post-war Dutch design. Crafted from stretch synthetic fabric tightly fitted over a foam, monolithic structure, the chair presents a seamless, organic silhouette inspired by natural forms – its wide, enveloping seat and gently flared base create a continuous, sculptural shape without visible legs or frame. This model features a vivid cobalt blue tone with a cool undertone, and its matte upholstery subtly diffuses light, emphasizing the chair’s sculptural presence. A single, meticulous vertical seam at the front attests to the quality of craftsmanship. The chair is preserved in very good condition – the upholstery shows no visible stains, abrasions, or damage, and retains both its original shape and color depth. Within the Mushroom, the spirit of the 1990s can be felt, when the modernist tradition was reimagined with a new sensitivity to form and comfort.
