ABOUT PRODUCTID 9796
The Type 300-192 armchair, designed by Juliusz Kędziorek for the Gościcińska Furniture Factory in the early 1970s, exemplifies Polish mid-century modernism. The construction is based on solid beech wood, which has been stripped, stained in a rosewood hue, and finished with a semi-matte lacquer that highlights the natural grain. The seat and backrest are upholstered in high-quality corduroy fabric in a deep, dark green shade, with a pronounced and soft ribbed texture. Distinctive features include gently rounded and slightly flared armrests, as well as slim, tapered legs connected by a horizontal stretcher for added stability. Balanced proportions, a low, slightly reclined backrest, and a broad, deep seat emphasize comfort, while the absence of visible fittings or screws reflects fine woodworking. Condition: restored – the armchair shows no signs of use; upholstery and wood appear as new. This piece tells the story of Polish design from the 1970s, an era when functionality met understated elegance. The soft, muted green corduroy recalls a time when color and texture were essential, and designers sought a balance between comfort and modern lines. The rounded armrests and composed silhouette evoke the domestic warmth of a bygone era, where every detail was intentional and carefully crafted. The armchair can be paired with a minimalist coffee table from the 1960s or 70s, as well as a lamp with a metal base and fabric shade to enhance the softness of the upholstery. It would work well in a living room styled in mid-century modern spirit, but also within eclectic, collector’s interiors where it contrasts with lighter furniture or geometric patterned rugs. It is worth combining with natural wood, ceramics, or framed graphics to emphasize its timeless character.
