The Zyklus chair, designed by Peter Maly for COR in 1984, is a distinctive example of German Space Age design from the 1980s. Its construction features a robust, highly polished tubular steel frame that forms a continuous circular outline around the seat. The seat and backrest are upholstered in smooth, matte black leather, contrasted by a cylindrical, dark blue leather headrest with a subtle satin sheen. The armrests are partially wrapped with a textured black material, providing tactile and visual contrast against the chrome. The rear legs are replaced by large, circular chrome discs—a unique structural element that reinforces the chair’s futuristic character. The chair includes an adjustable, upholstered headrest. Every component, from metal to upholstery, is in very good condition following comprehensive restoration—the leather is taut and smooth, chrome surfaces retain their glossy finish with no visible patina or scratches, and the overall appearance is fresh and free of wear.
Zyklus speaks in the voice of a decade when designers’ ambitions reached beyond the everyday.
