ABOUT PRODUCTID 13578
This basket-shaped sugar bowl, dating from the 1930s, is crafted from silver-plated brass and features a smooth glass insert—an example of interwar Polish metalwork. The design draws on the archetype of a small basket with a tall, arched handle attached by straightforward mounts and a solid, slightly flared foot. The matte, subtly silver-grey finish with visible patina defines the exterior, while the slender body is adorned with a decorative frieze featuring a geometric wave or stylized foliage motif characteristic of Art Deco. Across the decorative midsection, gentle abrasions and spots of wear, as well as minor pitting, reveal the object’s original materials and use over time. The glass insert is precisely fitted inside the metal casing, bringing a sense of lightness and functional distinction, while contrasting with the cool, plate finish. Its proportions remain balanced—from the wide opening and gently sloping sides to the stable base—and no modern repairs are visible, emphasizing the piece's authenticity. Very good condition—the piece preserves its vintage patina with no contemporary interventions. The bowl seems to retell the history of prewar Lviv, a city where tradition met the advancing aesthetics of Art Deco. The unadorned metal and boldly patterned frieze evoke the era’s fascination with geometry, crisp line, and synthesized elegance. Each play of light on the matte shell reveals the subtle imprint of decades, as if the vessel quietly recalls
