ABOUT PRODUCTID 11646
This sugar bowl from 1950s Poland is an example of post-war Art Deco craftsmanship in tableware. Cast in brass and coated with a layer of silver, it features a cool, silvery tone accented by natural patina and subtle discoloration typical for authentic vintage pieces. The shape is defined by symmetry: a rounded, bulbous body flows gently into a flared base, while two slender, upward-curving handles reinforce the vessel’s horizontal rhythm. The lid, slightly domed and topped with a spherical knob, recalls the geometric simplicity of late Art Deco. The overall finish is predominantly glossy, with some matte areas and fine scratches visible on the body and base, bearing traces of regular use. The construction is solid, with precisely joined handles and a well-fitting lid. The piece is preserved in very good condition, showing period-appropriate signs of use without major damage or evidence of modern restoration. This sugar bowl carries the spirit of post-war Warsaw—a period when Art Deco quietly transitioned into everyday life, bringing harmonious proportions and functional elegance to the domestic table. Silvered brass evokes memories of family gatherings and rituals, while the geometric clarity of form seems to reflect a longing for order in the aftermath of the war. Its patina and subtle tarnishing are tangible records of passing decades—a silent witness to shared moments where every spoonful of sugar had its own story to tell. The bowl pairs well with porcelain sets featuring simple, geometric lines or with tableware in muted, uniform colors to highlight its silvery surface. It could be combined with a dark wooden tray or a minimalist platter; a period-appropriate candleholder nearby would create a cohesive, collectible arrangement in both classic and eclectic table settings.
