This calling card tray, created in Vienna between 1910 and 1920, exemplifies the elegant combination of polished, dark brown marble with a miniature bronze sculpture depicting two dogs in the midst of a dramatic fight. The circular base, finished to a high gloss, features layers of cream and beige veining that highlight the natural depth and texture of the marble. Mounted securely on the marble with small, discreet screws is a finely detailed bronze group, cast, chased, partly gilt, and polished, capturing the muscular tension and lively fur texture of the animals. This composition reflects the stylistic hallmarks of Viennese Secessionist miniature bronzes from the early twentieth century, characterized by anatomical realism and expressive movement in a compact form.
