ABOUT PRODUCTID 4566
This Art Nouveau candelabrum by Orivit, crafted around 1900 in Cologne, exemplifies German design at the turn of the century. Made from pewter plated with a cool, silvery tone and finished with a soft matte surface, it displays subtle patina and gentle darkening in the recesses, enhancing its sculptural detail. Measuring 19 cm in height, 20.5 cm in length, and 11.5 cm in width, the candelabrum features two candle holders adorned with stylized tulip bud motifs. The arms curve symmetrically in flowing, organic forms reminiscent of natural plant lines, while the broad, undulating base ensures stability. The underside bears the Orivit signature and catalogue number, with all relief work executed precisely and joints rendered invisible. It is preserved in very good condition—smooth surface with occasional soft highlights, no visible damage or repairs, and only minor age-appropriate wear typical of early 20th-century antiques. This piece seems to narrate the story of an era when art infused daily life and nature stood as the chief muse for designers. Its undulating lines and floral motifs evoke the atmosphere of Art Nouveau interiors, where candlelight danced across metallic surfaces and every detail was drawn from the rhythm of organic ornament. The candelabrum’s form speaks the language of the fin de siècle: delicacy paired with function, and each glance at its sinuous arms conjures visions of a flourishing garden in German Secessionist style. It could be paired with other decorative elements from the early 20th century—such as art glass, porcelain, or carved mirror frames—to create a collector’s composition in a living room or library.
