ABOUT PRODUCTID 23271
This Art Nouveau glass carafe, produced by WMF in Germany around 1890–1900, is a testament to late 19th-century craftsmanship. Made of clear, cool-toned glass with a delicate, diagonal ribbed texture, it gently refracts light across its surface. The metal fittings—including the base, neck, lid, and ornate handle—are crafted from pewter, originally silver-plated, now displaying a dark, matte patina with areas of lighter wear. The handle is highly decorative, with asymmetrical scrollwork and a prominent mascaron in relief, surrounded by flowing, organic motifs characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. The proportions are elegant: a bulbous body narrows toward the neck and rests on a wide, stable foot. The carafe is cork-stoppered and shows no visible cracks or chips in the glass; the metal elements exhibit minor surface wear and oxidation. It remains in good, authentic condition, without evidence of modern restoration. This carafe carries the voice of the Art Nouveau era—an age enamored with organic forms and nature-inspired ornamentation. The mascaron’s expressive relief and the fluid movement of the metalwork evoke a fin-de-siècle sensibility, when decorative arts were woven into daily life. The darkened pewter, with its matte patina and traces of the original silver plating, records the passage of time, as if each touch and every use left its subtle imprint. The carafe can be placed on an oak sideboard or among porcelain tableware in a living room, where light will
