ABOUT PRODUCTID 4476
This Art Nouveau wooden case, attributed to the Zakopane school and dating from 1900–1920, is turned from a single piece of wood. It features a domed lid, richly hand-carved and painted with a floral motif of poppies—petals rendered in earthy red, leaves and stems in golden-olive and ochre hues. The primary color is a deep, almost black-brown, enhanced by a glossy shellac finish that reflects light and emphasizes the wood’s natural grain. The rounded edges and seamless construction attest to a high level of craftsmanship, while the organic, flowing composition is characteristic of Zakopane-style Art Nouveau. The surface reveals only minor patina and minimal traces of use, with no significant damage or restoration. The overall condition is very good, with all decorative elements remaining original and intact. This small case carries the spirit of early twentieth-century Zakopane Secession—a silent witness to an artistic movement that drew on nature and local traditions. The hand-carved poppies evoke the memory of mountain meadows in summer, while the polished wood shimmers like a lake surface in afternoon light. Every detail, from the gently rounded lid to the subtle shading of the petals, speaks of reverence for craft and a love of organic motifs, so typical of Zakopane’s interpretation of Art Nouveau. The
