This Art Nouveau casket, crafted around 1900 in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, exemplifies the refined decorative arts of the turn of the 20th century. The structure features a domed lid and robust, solid joinery, composed of polished, richly grained wood in a deep reddish-brown hue. Elaborate brass fittings, combining polished and white-enameled elements, wrap the casket in fluid, organic lines and stylized motifs characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. The brass accents are finished with engraved and gilded details, as well as small round studs, adding intricacy and visual depth. A decorative, fully functional lock with a key and prominent hinges complete the composition, while the interior is lined with glass to protect valuables.
