ABOUT PRODUCTID 2248
This Art Nouveau dance card, crafted in France around 1900, is a petite personal accessory emblematic of the Belle Époque. Its cover, made of silver-plated white brass (alpacca), features a subtle interplay of tones: from warm, aged silver to golden highlights in the central panel. The front displays a raised, rectangular frame adorned with stylized garland motifs and small rosettes—quintessential Art Nouveau elements reflecting the finesse of handwork. The form is compact and geometrically balanced, with a precise hinge and a pencil holder ending in a rounded tip. Inside, there is a compartment for note cards, and a small loop at the top allows it to be attached to a chain. The notebook is in very good condition, covered with a noble patina, showing no damage or signs of repair; the pencil’s mechanism remains functional and is compatible with contemporary graphite refills. This small object carries the echoes of late nineteenth-century salons—ballroom lights, discreet conversations, and the rituals of social life. The garland ornamentation recalls the era’s fondness for classical motifs, which, in Art Nouveau interpretation, become fluid and delicate, as if each line were a musical phrase. The matte surface, with darker areas near the edges, tells of many evenings and gatherings
