ABOUT PRODUCTID 4246
This Art Nouveau door knocker from circa 1900 is a representative example of Viennese metalcraft from the turn of the 20th century. Cast in solid bronze, its primary color is a warm, medium brown with a reddish undertone, enriched by natural patina in greenish and darker shades, especially within the recessed ornamentation. The matte finish is contrasted by subtle satin highlights on raised areas, emphasizing its refined, slightly aged appearance. The knocker features flowing, organic lines with stylized botanical and shell motifs, characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. The backplate is shaped with an undulating contour and intricate relief, while the handle forms a double scroll with a central shell accent. The detailed casting and visible hand-finishing marks reveal the artisanal quality of its era. It incorporates robust, integrated mounting holes and joints. Dimensions: approximately 15 cm high and 10 cm wide. Condition: very good, original – only minor scratches and a noble patina are present, testifying to its age and authenticity. This knocker carries the voice of the fin de siècle—a time when the entrance to a home welcomed visitors with a gesture of refined detail. The slightly aged bronze surface recalls an era when even functional objects were adorned with motifs drawn from nature. Its soft lines, asymmetrical curves, and shell design evoke the world of Viennese Art Nouveau—full of understated opulence
