This Art Nouveau desk inkwell by WMF was produced in Germany at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, as confirmed by the signature on its underside. Made from copper and brass, its warm, subtly reddish tone is complemented by a soft, satin-matte finish. The inkwell is adorned with fluid, sinuous lines and stylized botanical motifs characteristic of the Jugendstil movement, including embossed, organic patterns and a geometric accent on the front. The lid features a stylized floral or seed pod motif, while a small brass detail is visible on the hinge. The monolithic construction integrates a rectangular tray with a rounded, slightly domed ink reservoir, and a removable insert ensures functional use. The proportions are elongated and refined, with the surface exhibiting a gentle patina, minor spots, and light scratches typical of its age, but no significant damage.
