This jardiniere by Quist, crafted in Germany circa 1900, exemplifies early 20th-century German Art Nouveau metalwork. The body is composed of silver-plated pewter with a cool, matte sheen, softly reflecting ambient light and accentuating the organic, asymmetric lines. Flowing handles arch upward, framing a central frieze of stylized flowers and garlands, all rendered in precise relief. The clear, faceted crystal glass insert creates a refined contrast, revealing the interplay of light and transparency. On the front, an ornate floral composition surrounds a medallion engraved with a 1911 dedication, while the underside bears the rare Quist maker's mark and a catalog number. The jardiniere rests on four sculpted feet, providing stability and a sense of elevation. The condition is excellent, with no damage and only a gentle patina that attests to its age. The jardiniere speaks with the voice of Jugendstil: fluid contours and botanical garlands tell the story of a time when nature inspired the applied arts. The silvery pewter, like a misty morning, subtly diffuses the light, while the cut glass insert introduces a discreet play of reflections. The engraved medallion brings a personal note, hinting at the piece’s history as a cherished gift, perhaps once at the center of family gatherings or special occasions. This piece would work especially well in a living room or dining space, placed atop
