ABOUT PRODUCTID 36118
This WMF serving tray from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries exemplifies German craftsmanship, seamlessly combining silver-plated brass with cut crystal glass. The tray’s generous, oval form is accentuated by a broad, cool-toned metallic rim. The centrepiece is a sharply cut crystal surface, featuring a starburst pattern that beautifully disperses light. Four small, column-shaped feet discreetly lift the tray, while two arched handles with openwork detailing ensure comfortable handling. The rim and handles are adorned with Art Nouveau botanical reliefs, where a natural patina deepens the visual texture and emphasizes the plasticity of the ornament. The distinctive WMF hallmark—a running ostrich in a horseshoe—together with the 'OX' and '1/x' marks, attests to the silver-plating technique and the high standards aimed at discerning clients of the era. The tray is preserved in very good condition, with no visible dents or deep scratches; the silver layer remains intact, and the light patina enhances its historical authenticity. This piece speaks in the voice of Art Nouveau Europe: an era when utilitarian objects aspired to sensual beauty
