ABOUT PRODUCTID 38269
This Art Nouveau sugar bowl, produced by WMF in Germany around 1905, exemplifies early 20th-century silversmithing. Crafted from brass, silver-plated on the exterior, and gilded inside, it displays a cool, silvery hue with a subtle golden undertone. The bowl features a harmonious, rounded body, two elegantly curved handles, and a domed lid with a decorative finial. An ornamental frieze of flowing, organic floral motifs encircles the upper section, characteristic of Jugendstil design. The surface is glossy and reflective, with slight patina and minor age-related marks typical of antique silver-plated objects. The underside bears the WMF maker’s mark with the ostrich figure, used circa 1905. Proportions are balanced: width 10.5 cm, length 14.5 cm, height 11 cm. The overall condition is very good, with only minor surface scratches and gentle tarnishing—no visible repairs or significant damage. This sugar bowl carries the spirit of Art Nouveau Europe, when artistry infused everyday objects with grace and subtle symbolism. Its fluid lines evoke table conversations under the shimmer of silver, while the organic ornamentation speaks of a fascination with nature and form. Every detail tells a story of an era when utility was inseparable from artistic intention. The glinting play of silver and gold recalls the light of a turn-of-the-century café, where every gesture held meaning. This piece could become the centerpiece of a table setting in a classic living room or a collector’s kitchen. It pairs well with porcelain dinnerware, Jugendstil glass, or atop an oak sideboard among other silver or silver-plated accessories. Combine it with linen napkins and cut glassware to highlight its historic
