This sugar bowl from the 1930s, attributed to the Hungarian Argentor manufactory, is crafted from silver-plated brass and draws its form from the organic vocabulary of nature. Its compact, slightly flattened silhouette features an airy openwork band of stylized leaves and flowers encircling the body—a refined ornamental interplay characteristic of late Art Nouveau merging into early European Art Deco. The gently raised circular base displays a motif of leaf rosettes with crisp vein relief and a subtle textured surface, reinforcing the floral inspiration. A high, smoothly curved handle in a simple, polished arc grants both functional ease and balanced composition. The main tone is a cool, satin-matte silver, subtly warmed by golden-brass highlights along the rim and within the openwork, suggesting the brass beneath the silver layer. The sugar bowl is preserved in very good condition—minor abrasions and an irregular patina enhance its genuine vintage character, with no major damage or repairs. The vessel carries the gentle resonance of Central European interwar salons: its silver surface softly scatters the light, evoking a time when coffee services and crystal created understated rituals. The base’s leaf pattern speaks of the fascination with nature that shaped both Art Nouveau and early Art Deco aesthetics; the organic linework and subdued patina quietly reflect a dialogue between transience and permanence.
