ABOUT PRODUCTID 19942
This early 20th-century Art Nouveau sugar bowl, attributed to Szandrik from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, is a testament to the era’s refined metalwork. Crafted from silver-plated brass, its matte, lightly patinated surface reveals subtle darkening and natural tarnish characteristic of antique silver-plated objects. The upper rim is adorned with an embossed floral frieze, lending an organic accent typical of the Secessionist style. The handle, robust and arched, is gently sculpted at the top to echo the floral motif. Inside, a clear glass insert features geometric, etched patterns—angular, stylized lines offering a striking contrast to the ornate metalwork. The transparent glass catches the light with a soft sheen, emphasizing the bowl’s harmonious proportions: a wide mouth elegantly tapering to a narrower, stable base. The construction is solid, and the glass fits securely into the metal frame. Condition is good: traces of patina, minor scratches, and some localized tarnish are present, but there are no major damages or repairs. This piece evokes an era in which art infused daily ritual. Its Art Nouveau silhouette conjures the atmosphere of Viennese salons, where silvery metal and clear glass graced the table at afternoon tea. The matte finish and organic detailing seem to whisper of a world where every object was invested with meaning, and decoration was thoughtfully
