ABOUT PRODUCTID 20772
This rectangular Art Nouveau sugar box, crafted by the renowned German manufacturer WMF circa 1900, is a testament to early 20th-century metalwork. Made from copper in a warm, medium tone with a naturally developed patina, it features contrasting brass accents on the base and lid. The solid, box-like form is adorned with repousse work—symmetrical vegetal and geometric patterns characteristic of the Jugendstil aesthetic. The lid is topped with a sculptural, looped handle, and each corner is embellished with raised, stylized leaf motifs. Inside, the box is tin-plated; the underside bears the manufacturer's ostrich mark, confirming its authenticity and turn-of-the-century provenance. Dimensions: height 7.6 cm, length 12 cm, width 9 cm. The condition is very good, with minor signs of use and gentle patina consistent with age, and no major damage or repairs detected. This piece seems to whisper the story of Art Nouveau Europe, when flowing lines and organic motifs embodied a new harmony between the decorative arts and nature. The sugar box, with its gentle contours, intricate repousse details, and the muted glow of copper, evokes the ambiance of fin-de-siècle Viennese cafés, where everyday rituals were imbued with an attention to detail. Each curve and texture tells of a time when utility objects carried an artistic narrative. The sugar box can serve as the centerpiece of a tea or dessert setting in interiors inspired by Art Nouveau or classic eclecticism. It pairs well with delicately decorated porcelain, displayed on linen tablecloths or marble surfaces, and alongside Art Nouveau glassware or silver cutlery. It may be combined with brass candlesticks to highlight the interplay of materials and forms. Whether in a collector's dining room or a contemporary kitchen
