This Art Nouveau serving tray, produced around 1905 in the French branch of the renowned WMF manufactory, exemplifies the craftsmanship of the early 20th century. Made from a white metal alloy, likely tin plated with silver, it features a cool, muted silver hue with a matte finish and subtle patina. Measuring 46 × 33 cm, the tray is a study in geometric Art Nouveau, with two integrated, elongated handles that flow gracefully from the main body. The border is adorned with a detailed, raised relief of stylized ivy leaves and stems—a botanical motif emblematic of the period’s fascination with natural forms. The softly rounded corners and fluid, symmetrical lines emphasize both elegance and functionality, while the mostly smooth surface bears authentic signs of age: fine scratches, gentle discoloration, and natural darkening in the recesses. On the reverse side, the piece displays both the Galia rooster and WMF ostrich hallmarks, attesting to its provenance. The tray remains in very good condition, with typical signs of use for its era but no major dents or structural damage.
