This ceramic vase, produced by Faiencerie Thulin in Belgium at the beginning of the 20th century, represents the region’s expertise in decorative Art Nouveau wares. The body features a bulbous, rounded shape with a flattened base and a thickened rim, revealing careful craftsmanship. The deep, burgundy red glaze is evenly applied with a lustrous sheen, dominating the form. Cream-beige streaks of flowing glaze organically cascade down the surface, creating a marbled, pearly decorative effect. The upper section is adorned with raised, stylised floral motifs and gentle Art Nouveau scrolls in relief, accentuated by the gloss of the glaze. A subtle transition to cool, light bluish-grey emerges at the rim, finishing the composition. The piece remains in excellent, undamaged condition – the quality of the glaze and ornamentation affirms the authenticity of the Thulin manufactory.
In both shape and colour, the vase evokes the ambiance of the Belle Époque, when Art Nouveau reigned in continental decorative arts.
