ABOUT PRODUCTID 18083
This Viennese writing set from the early 20th century is a three-piece desk ensemble, exemplifying the refined craftsmanship of Art Nouveau-era Vienna (circa 1900–1920). The set comprises a dip pen with a gold-colored metal nib, a sleek letter opener, and a wax seal—each element fashioned from marbled bakelite in shades of deep and light grey with white, creating swirling, high-gloss patterns and a smooth tactile finish emblematic of early modern design. Gilded brass mounts, precisely engraved and adorned with distinct iris motifs, accent the ferrules and the end of the seal, which bears the initials ‘HG’. The set’s proportions are slender and elongated, characteristic of early 20th-century desk accessories from Vienna: the pen measures 19 cm, the letter opener 14.5 cm, and the seal 8 cm. The original rectangular case is lined with pale beige velvet and cream silk on the lid, with the exterior simulating grey wood grain and securing with a small brass clasp. Condition is very good:
