The Oracolo floor lamp, designed at the end of the 1960s by Gae Aulenti for Artemide, exemplifies the innovative spirit of Italian design. Its construction is defined by a distinctive geometric silhouette: a chocolate-brown gloss-lacquered metal column forms a stable base, surmounted by a spherical diffuser in white opal glass. The high-gloss, smooth surface of the base reflects light, while the satin finish of the globe softly disperses it – together, lending a sculptural rhythm to the whole. Modernist style is evident in the balanced proportions and minimal detailing: a single brushed metal ring marks the transition between base and shade. With a height of 136 cm and a shade diameter of 34 cm, the lamp is proportioned for both residential and spacious public interiors. It remains in very good condition, with glossy, unblemished surfaces showing no visible wear or discolouration, free from chips or corrosion.
The Oracolo lamp resonates with the spirit of an era devoted to the interplay of sculpture and light – a manifesto of the late 1960s and early 1970s, when Italian modernism was both expressive and disciplined.
