ABOUT PRODUCTID 20259
This goblet, designed by Zbigniew Horbowy for the Sudety Glassworks in 1971, exemplifies Polish artistic glass from the late modernist period. Crafted from mass-colored sodium glass, it presents a seamless color gradient: from a luminous, almost neon yellow at the bowl to a deep, saturated green at the nodus, stem, and base. The silhouette captures modernist ideals of reduction – a slender, elongated stem and sculptural, bulbous node beneath the bowl lend it an organic, dynamic quality. The base is wide and flat, with visible concentric rings typical of hand-blown glass. The surface is smooth and highly glossy, reflecting light and emphasizing the subtle shading. The goblet is preserved in very good condition, with no visible signs of wear or damage. This goblet evokes the spirit of 1970s Poland, a time of experimentation with color and form in search of modernity despite the era’s constraints. The colored glass, flowing transitions, and minimalist silhouette recall the ethos of Zbigniew Horbowy’s studio – a designer who saw glass not only as a functional material but as a medium of emotional intensity. The elongated shape and vivid coloration suggest an object meant to attract the eye, functioning as a small, sculptural work. Each reflection on the surface underscores the moment when art meets everyday life
