This goblet, designed by Zbigniew Horbowy for the Sudety Glassworks in 1971, represents Polish artistic glassmaking in the minimalist spirit of the 1970s. Crafted from cased soda-lime glass, its coloration flows from saturated amber-yellow at the bowl, through a milky white, slender stem, to a renewed amber accent at the foot. The glossy, smooth surface heightens the piece’s lightness and modern presence. Its sculptural, organic silhouette features a bulbous, gently flared bowl atop an exceptionally elongated stem and a small, round base, emphasizing verticality and refined proportion. Measuring 36 cm in height and 9 cm in diameter, it achieves both a monumental and understated effect. The absence of visible joins or seams attests to the high craftsmanship. Condition: very good, with no visible signs of wear, preserving original finish and color. This goblet channels the voice of Polish modernism in the 1970s—a time when glass was a medium for experimentation and artistic expression. Its form tells of a fascination with light and color; the gradient evokes a dialogue between material and the light passing through. The object stands like a sculpture, recounting the creative freedom of its era, when even utilitarian vessels embodied a new sensibility and the search for harmony through simplicity. The goblet may be displayed on a freestanding console or within a showcase alongside other examples of Central European artistic glass. It pairs well with minimalist furniture of clean lines, allowing its organic silhouette and coloring to take center stage. One could combine it with ceramics, a single branch, or a raw wooden plane—thus, the subtle color gradient of the glass gains depth and becomes a quiet focal point in a living or dining interior.
