ABOUT PRODUCTID 33556
The Perignem Amphora ceramic ashtray is a large, rectangular piece from the 1970s, crafted by the renowned Belgian producer Perignem. Made from robust, glazed ceramic, it features a deep, metallic bronze as the primary tone, contrasted by a vivid, fiery orange-red accent at the center. The surface is adorned with abstract, crater-like motifs in white and black, evoking the volcanic, textural quality typical for brutalist studio pottery of the decade. Along one long edge, three integrated cigarette rests are seamlessly molded into the dynamic, tactile form. Its proportions are elongated and low (approximately 28 × 11.5 cm, height 2.5 cm), with a subtly grainy ceramic texture visible beneath the glossy glaze. The ashtray is preserved in very good condition, with only a minor, barely visible chip beneath the upper rim; all elements remain original and authentic to the period. This ashtray captures the spirit of the 1970s, when brutalism in applied arts championed the honest expression of material and bold, sculptural decoration. The energetic orange-red accent breathes fiery life into the form, while the metallic bronzes and irregular patterns recall raw volcanic landscapes. More than a functional object, it stands as a testament to the artistic autonomy and fascination with untamed natural forces that defined the era’s design language. The ashtray can be displayed on a low coffee table or sideboard with clean, modernist lines, where its raw, sculptural presence will be accentuated by surroundings of natural wood or cool stone. It may be combined with other ceramic or glass vessels in contrasting colors to highlight its energetic accent. Interiors marked by collector’s eclecticism, modernism, or
