This ceramic ashtray, produced by Ditmar Urbach in Czechoslovakia between 1958 and 1969, is a representative example of mid-century modern design characteristic of the 'Brussel' style. Made of bisque and glazed ceramic, it features a square outline with softly rounded corners and thick, smooth walls, giving it a compact, balanced form. Three distinct grooves along the rim serve as practical cigarette rests, underscoring its utilitarian purpose. The primary colour is a warm, creamy beige with a satin-gloss glaze; inside, hand-applied streaks of dark green and black glaze add rhythmic abstraction reminiscent of the organic motifs popular in late-1950s and 1960s Central Europe. The surface tone exhibits subtle variation in intensity, while a slightly raised base imparts a sense of solidity.
