This cigar ashtray with guillotine cutter, crafted by the renowned German manufactory J.P. Kayser Söhne in Krefeld-Bockum at the turn of the 20th century, stands as an outstanding example of Art Nouveau desk accessories. The substantial, round form—23 cm in diameter and 13 cm high—is cast from a high-quality bronze alloy in a warm, brown hue, covered with a uniform, noble patina. The composition is crowned by a sculptural bird figure whose elongated beak and finely engraved spiral body ingeniously conceal a fully functional guillotine cigar cutter. In addition to this mechanical feature, the ashtray is equipped with two crescent-shaped cigar rests and an elegant match holder, and the ensemble is completed by a thick, original cut crystal glass insert. The precision of the workmanship and the absence of visible fasteners reflect the elevated standards of the Kayser manufactory, with its signature clearly visible on the underside. Preserved in very good condition, with intact crystal and a consistent patina, the piece bears only minor, natural traces of use appropriate to its age.The form of this ashtray tells the story of an era when functional objects became canvases for artistic
