This ashtray, produced by Orivit in Germany at the turn of the 20th century, is crafted from the manufacturer’s proprietary ‘orivit metal’ alloy. Its bowl is nearly square with softly rounded and slightly elongated corners. Two opposite sides are thickened and adorned with fine horizontal ribbing, designed to serve as rests for cigarettes or cigars. The wide rim is encircled with raised floral motifs, rendered in a sculptural low relief, which highlights the object’s artistic origins. The primary color is a warm, muted silvery grey with a matte, subtly patinated finish that underlines both the passage of time and the characteristic glow of the alloy. The design’s proportions are balanced and infused with gently undulating lines. The surface reveals delicate traces of hand finishing and historical use, such as light scratches, minor discoloration and spots. The piece is in good, vintage condition appropriate for its age, with no damage or missing ornamental elements and retains its original Art Nouveau patina.
