This sommerso Murano catch-all or ashtray is a design by Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri D’Arte, made in Italy in the 1970s. The perfectly proportioned cube (8 × 8 × 5.7 cm) contains a rounded, bowl-like interior. Crafted from hand-formed glass and crystal, it employs the classic sommerso technique: a deep emerald green core is encased in a layer of warm yellow glass, all enveloped by a thick, clear crystal shell. The surface is smooth and highly polished, with sharply defined edges and seamless color transitions. The sommerso technique allows a gentle interplay of color: green core blending into yellow, fading into clear crystal. This piece tells a story of an era fascinated by experimentation and mastery of craft, where glass became a vehicle for light and color, and every detail held significance. This form could be paired with mid-century modern furniture—light wood veneers, clean lines, and minimalist décor. It would work well atop a marble surface or wooden console, alongside other glass pieces such as Murano vases or transparent candleholders. In eclectic collector’s
