ABOUT PRODUCTID 16319
This 1970s Space Age ashtray is crafted from heavy amber-orange glass, featuring marbled swirls and smoky accents that animate its moderate translucency. The glass is smoothly polished with a rounded, gently flattened base, ensuring visual stability and a distinctive tactile heft. Resting atop is a chromed metal dome, polished to a mirror-like finish and incorporating two precision-cut cigarette rests as well as a rotary mechanism for emptying ash into the interior. A slender, chromed ring separates the glass and metal, reinforcing the modular character emblematic of the Space Age aesthetic. The object is preserved in very good condition, with no visible cracks or chips—only slight signs of wear on the metal, typical for its era. This piece channels the spirit of the 1970s, when fascination with space exploration shaped both form and fantasy. The warm, amber tone of the glass contrasts with the cool, reflective chrome: together, they create a sculptural object that echoes the optimism and technological imagination of its time. The interplay of reflection and color depth makes it reminiscent of real or imagined artefacts from spacecraft control rooms or forward-looking modernist interiors. In a living space, the ashtray would work well as a statement detail on a coffee table or classic sideboard in retro or mid-century-inspired arrangements. It could be paired with bold-toned ceramics or plastics, or lamps with softly rounded profiles. Placing it against solid, saturated textiles—such as bottle green, graphite, or cobalt blue—will highlight its collectible presence and historical resonance.
