ABOUT PRODUCTID 19979
This basket-form sugar bowl, crafted by the German manufacturer WMF at the beginning of the 20th century, exemplifies classic Art Nouveau design. Its organic silhouette is shaped as a large, undulating leaf, with pronounced veins and a softly scalloped rim. The surface is textured and slightly rough, echoing the natural irregularities of foliage. Made of silver-plated brass, the piece features a cool, silvery tone with areas of gentle patina and subtle golden-brown tarnish in the recesses, which deepen the visual detail. Resting on three small, rounded feet that merge harmoniously with the bowl’s organic form, the design emphasizes the asymmetry and fluid lines so characteristic of the Secession period, while retaining everyday usability. The overall condition is very good – only minor signs of use and a noble patina are visible, consistent with an authentic antique of this era. This sugar bowl encapsulates the artistic spirit of the early 20th century, when nature became the guiding inspiration for craftsmanship. The delicate veining and softly contoured edges evoke the atmosphere of the belle époque, an era when art and daily life intertwined and even utilitarian objects were granted decorative refinement. The leaf’s surface seems to whisper of morning teas and parlor conversations in gentle light, while the patina and subtle traces of wear reflect a tangible continuity with the past. The sugar bowl may be displayed as a centrepiece on a classically set dining table or placed on a sideboard, where it will highlight the spirit of a curated collection. It pairs well with porcelain service, Art Nouveau glassware, or pressed tum
