This antique Slovenian beehive front board, dating from around 1820, represents an early phase of local folk art. The hand-painted panel, crafted from spruce and measuring 29 × 16 × 2 cm, features a matte, heavily patinated surface. Its primary tones are warm, medium brown wood, accentuated by a centrally placed diamond in subdued turquoise-green. Within this panel appears the figure of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, with crown, palm branch, and wheel, rendered in earthy terracotta hues and golden ochre highlights. Stylized, reddish-pink floral motifs flank the saint, lending a discreet decorative accent. The board bears a shallow notch at its lower edge, characteristic of Slovenian hive construction, and shows visible joinery marks. Numerous small abrasions, splits, and areas of flaked paint highlight the passage of time without compromising stability. The item is in very good condition, with typical traces of use and age.
