ABOUT PRODUCTID 28583
This vintage waiting bench by Drabert from the 1970s exemplifies Space Age design, where bold lines and practical form coexist. The structure is built on a black-painted steel frame, supported by two angular aluminum legs with exposed screws that emphasize its industrial character. The two seat shells are made of high-gloss, deep brown plastic, paired with matte ochre faux leather upholstery on both seats and backrests, which have been newly reupholstered for a refreshed appearance. On the left side, an integrated rectangular teak veneer table top features a natural, medium-brown grain with a satin finish. The overall proportions are harmonious, with the bench and table forming a clear horizontal line—a hallmark of public seating from the era. The bench is in restored, very good condition: the upholstery and woodwork have been renewed, with no visible signs of wear or damage. The form of this bench tells the story of 1970s optimism—a decade when design drew inspiration from technology and the space race. The sculptural seat shells and gleaming frame evoke futuristic airport terminals or expressive railway waiting areas, where every detail was intended to be both practical and visually forward-looking. The ochre and brown hues recall the play of light and shadow seen through train windows, while the satin teak top introduces warmth and calm, balancing the coolness of metal and plastic. This is a piece that seems to say: "Waiting can be comfortable and stylish, even in a world defined by haste." The bench can be used not only in hallways or home waiting areas but also as a room divider or entryway seating in an open-plan living space
