ABOUT PRODUCTID 12714
This Biedermeier-era Bohemian bonbonniere from the 19th century is crafted from double-layered crystal glass, with a clear, transparent base overlaid by deep ruby red geometric bands and panels. The faceted silhouette and well-defined angular forms reflect the harmony and restraint of Biedermeier style, tinged with subtle Neoclassical influence. The glass is smooth and highly polished, while the matte-engraved botanical motifs—lush leaves and stylised flowers—are meticulously frosted onto the red squares and rectangular fields, introducing tactile contrast and visual rhythm. The silver or silver-plated metal lid features a stepped, domed shape with an ornate finial and bears a gentle patina consistent with age. The condition is very good overall—there are no significant damages or traces of restoration, only minor, age-appropriate wear and slight tarnishing to the metal. This object recalls the discreet refinement and everyday rituals of Biedermeier interiors. Its crisp geometry and botanical etchings evoke the attentive spirit of 19th-century Central European homes—spaces where the cool translucence of ruby crystal would reflect the afternoon light and mark quiet domestic gatherings. The gently aged lid, softly muted, seems to remember gestures of hospitality: the gentle raising of the bonbonniere at family gatherings and festive occasions. The bonbonniere could be displayed atop a classical console, within a glass-fronted cabinet, or as a centrepiece on a living room table, highlighting interiors inspired by Biedermeier or eclectic collector's spaces. It would pair well with other period glassware or simple, dark ceramics to enhance the depth of the ruby overlays. It introduces a composed rhythm and sophisticated motif that gracefully connects antique heritage with contemporary settings.
