ABOUT PRODUCTID 12622
This centerpiece, created in the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic in the latter half of the 19th century, represents the distinguished tradition of Biedermeier crystal glassware. Fashioned from clear, cool-toned crystal, the bowl displays a wide, shallow dish with a scalloped, undulating edge and vertical, oval faceted cuts along its sides. The slim, baluster-shaped stem is adorned with hand-cut facets and transitions seamlessly into a substantial, six-sided base with sharply defined edges. Each structural element is precisely integrated, resulting in harmonious proportions that reflect the Biedermeier ethos of balanced form and practical utility. The glossy surface enhances the radiance of the crystal, while traces of age are visible: minor chips and natural wear can be observed along the rim and base, but there are no signs of restoration. The piece retains its original, authentically patinated character. Condition: shows signs of use and natural patina consistent with age and genuine use. This bowl evokes the ambiance of late 19th-century bourgeois interiors, where crystal was both a symbol of social stature and a companion in everyday rituals. Daylight, captured and refracted by the oval faceted walls, turned daily presentations of fruit or sweets into quiet ceremonies. The subtle signs of use inscribed in the crystal tell a silent chronicle of gatherings and celebrations from decades past, endowing the object with a sense of dignified history.Such a piece could be placed on a dark walnut or mahogany sideboard, forming a discreet counterpoint to porcelain or antique books. It would show equally well in a collector’s display cabinet, especially among other Biedermeier artifacts or within eclectic interiors where historic restraint enables dialogue with contemporary elements. On a dining or coffee table, the crystal softly scatters ambient light, lending a hushed, period-specific glow to the surrounding space.
