ABOUT PRODUCTID 12476
This Biedermeier-style mustard jar, made in Germany in the 1930s, features a body crafted from clear crystal with a regular geometric cut that creates a faceted, light-reflecting surface. The cylindrical form and vertical sides give the piece balanced, classical proportions, in keeping with the refined, utilitarian approach characteristic of early 20th-century German tableware. The silver-plated brass lid and spoon display a gentle patina and matte, aged finish, with the lid distinguished by a small, turned finial and a hinged mechanism typical of Biedermeier revival kitchen objects. The construction is solid with finely worked details; there are no visible chips or cracks, and the lid’s opening mechanism functions reliably. Surface scratches, gentle tarnishing, and signs of use appear on the metal, all in line with the passage of time. The piece remains in very good, authentic vintage condition and has not been restored. This mustard jar still resonates with the voice of interwar German craftsmanship, where functionality and understated ornament went hand in hand. The faceted crystal scatters light in delicate reflections—like quiet conversations at a sunlit table. The silvered lid, with its soft patina, marks the gentle passage of time and alludes to moments when details supported, rather than dominated, daily rituals. Each element expresses a philosophy of bringing an object to its essential core: a place for an accent that complemented the family table without overwhelming it.Such a piece could be paired with classic interwar tableware or eclectic, collector’s combinations of other cut crystal and silver-plated serving pieces.
