ABOUT PRODUCTID 12755
A Polish Biedermeier salt cellar from the 19th century, crafted by the Fraget workshop in silver-plated copper, features a cool, matte silver tone with areas of gentle patina reflecting its age. The object is uniform in colour – the bowl and decorative base present the same restrained, silvery hue. The rim is encircled by a deeply chased, naturalistic relief: a procession of leaves and small fruits, echoing the Biedermeier fascination with organic motifs and nature’s detail. Its gently undulating, square form with softly rounded corners is echoed in the proportioned pedestal, which serves as a subtly ornamented support. The metalwork reveals pronounced surface contrasts: the bowl’s interior is smooth, softly abraded, while the relief sections are vigorously textured and tactile. Precision casting and the absence of visible mechanical joints indicate attentive production. Condition is good, with minor rubbing, concentrated spots, and some small areas of silver loss authentically attesting to its age. There is no evidence of restoration. This small object recalls the atmosphere of 19th-century Polish bourgeois interiors—telling of daily rituals and tables where function harmonized with discrete ornament. The naturalistic ornamentation lies on the silvered surface like the shadow of a branch cast across a spring tablecloth; the square, softened profile quietly hints at gatherings where every detail mattered. The gentle texture of worn metal and the relief leaves speak of Biedermeier refinement—a simplicity that elevated everyday rituals to quiet ceremony
