ABOUT PRODUCTID 4232
The 'Tom' coffee set was designed by J. Steckiewicz in 1958 for the Wałbrzych Porcelain Factory. Crafted from fine porcelain, the set includes a tall, slender coffee pot, a lidded sugar bowl, a creamer, and six cups with matching saucers. The dominant black-and-white color scheme juxtaposes deep, glossy black with crisp white interiors, handles, and hand-painted dandelion motifs by Ludmiła Pokorna. The spray and hand-paint technique gives each piece a unique touch, while the smooth, lustrous surface highlights the precision of craftsmanship. The elongated forms, subtly curved lines, and thin, slightly angular handles reflect the avant-garde direction of Polish design from the late 1950s. The minimalist dandelion decoration brings a visual lightness, contrasting with the bold color palette. The motif evokes a sense of captured movement, as if freezing the instant of dandelion seeds dispersing across the porcelain’s surface. The slender proportions of the pot and cups suggest simplicity and focus on form, while handcrafted details add a layer of authenticity. The set communicates a dialogue between modernity and tradition, introducing a sense of calm and contemplation to the interior. This set can be paired with simple, light textiles or minimalist accessories made of metal or glass. Placing the set on a light wood table highlights the black-and-white contrast, or on a concrete surface for a graphic effect. It works well in spaces where detail and interplay of light matter—such as a modern living room, displayed on a console, accompanied by low ceramic vessels in neutral tones. The composition can be complemented by white flowers or simple greenery to echo the dandelion motif and emphasize the unique character of the set.
