ABOUT PRODUCTID 17048
This bonbonniere, produced by the De Rupel glassworks in Boom, Belgium and dated to the 1940s, exemplifies the streamlined art deco movement in utilitarian glassware. It is crafted from translucent glass in a fresh, cool green hue, shaped with pronounced, geometric symmetry: harmoniously layered horizontal bands accentuate both the body and the lid. Distinctive decorative elements include three gold bands encircling the lower part and lid, as well as a wide, silvery metallic ring just below the gold on the lid’s top. The spherical finial, also in green glass, is finished with another gold stripe at its apex. Proportions are balanced, with the widest section at mid-height; the domed lid aligns perfectly with the body. The surface is even, highly polished, free from scratches, loss, patina, or visible wear. Condition: the piece is in excellent condition with no evidence of use or restoration. This object echoes the spirit of the 1940s—a time when, amidst the austerity of postwar Europe, everyday items could become cherished tokens of resilience and beauty. The bonbonniere tells of the pursuit of harmony, where each detail—the gold bands, the silvery ring—formed part of daily ritual and quiet celebration. Its mirror-like surface suggests the reflection of a gentle Sunday light on a windowsill—capturing the calm, detail-oriented aesthetic of the mid-century home. Such a bonbonniere could serve as a focal point on a marble-topped sideboard or low console in the living room. It can be arranged alongside other glass vessels in contrasting hues—azure or amber—to emphasize the timelessness of art deco. The piece works well with geometric
